February was the month of fashion; from the many red carpets rolled out for awards season and lined with Hollywood elite to Fashion Week taking its bi-annual tour of New York, London, Paris and Milan to sample next season’s best looks and must-buys. Fashion is ever-present in our lives and trends trickle down from the runways to influence our day-to-day style. It’s fair to say that here at Grow Gorgeous we’re more concerned and attuned to notice what’s happening above the models’ shoulders and to spot shapes and styles detailing the hair than we are what they’re wearing.
You see, fashions come and go while style lasts forever. And nothing exudes style more than a woman with gorgeous hair. Here’s a few things we learned about the coming hair trends from observing the runway over the past month and four rounds of Fashion Week.
French hair is still chic
Quelle surprise, French hair is still as chic as ever. French hair is hard to define but when you see it, you just know. It’s so very European and everyone wants to know how to achieve this look. The unequivocal style of a chic Parisian lady is much coveted and surprisingly easy to recreate with some light curls brushed through for an unfussy look. When at Paris Fashion Week Dior took this look one step further with accompanying berets, oh la la!
Ponytails aren’t going anywhere
Elevated from our kindergarten days when ponytails were the only style we wore, the ponytails we saw throughout Fashion Week (or should we say Fashion Month) were worn neat and at the nape of the neck rather than bunched up and closer to the crown where we regularly wear our hair when we throw it up in an effort to get it off of our face. Long have ponytails been a staple in our hair wardrobes and for good reason too. You can easily tailor a ponytail and transform it to something formal as British brand Mulberry have shown with slicked down sides and feminine texture.
Bows are going to be big
As we’re mentioning ponytails we couldn’t help but notice that they were taken to a whole other level by the likes of Lorenzo Serafini and Tory Burch by the addition of a bow. Yes, bows. It looks as though we’re all becoming very nostalgic with our hair with braids, ponytails and now even bows. But these hair ribbons are a class above those playground styles as we’ve spotted plush, velvet ribbons wrapped around sleek and shiny hair for an elegant touch.
We’re crushing on beach waves
Every summer we expect to see some variation of beachy, tousled hair and of course this was delivered but this season at Fashion Week things were looking far more polished. The salty textured hair was refined with a glossy finish. This is still just as easy to achieve with a rough air dry finish and working some movement into the hair as you scrunch it when it’s damp but just remember to use serum to enhance hair’s vibrancy as texture in the hair often tends to translate as matte.
These beach waves are a grown-up take on tousled hair that can be worn to the office as well as to the beach for all you West Coasters.
Hair embellishment is the height of sophistication
What we love about hair embellishment being very much a ‘thing’ for this season is its ability to dress up any look and also the excuse it gives us to dress up! Gorgeous hair is fun, it’s flirty and frankly, it makes life the little bit better so why not embrace it and go all out when it comes to showing off our hair?
There’s been ponytails and ribbons so for the complete package of nostalgic hair inspiration we present to you, headbands. Many have been suggesting that New York brand, Altuzarra are channelling Anne Boleyn with pearls adorning this head gear but we kind of love the regality of it all. Dolce & Gabbana have also approached head-dressing as an occasion for your hair to say something about you and here it says “your hair is your crowning glory” and we couldn’t agree more!
